Horn Worm Out Break

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries informs the general public that there is an out break of Sweet Potato Horn Worm in the distircts of Amuria, Soroti and Rukungiri

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries informs the general public that there is an out break of Sweet Potato Horn Worm in the districts of Amuria, Soroti and Rukungiri. It is a caterpillar that feeds on the leaves of sweet potatoes causing reduction in yields.

The caterpillar has a green or brown body with a black horn on its tail.

The Sweet Potato Horn Worm is controlled by spraying with insecticide such as Cypermethrin or Deltamethrin. The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries has procured sufficient quantities of the insecticide to contain the spread of the caterpillars.

Anyone who sees these caterpillars is requested to report to the nearest Agricultural Officer or District Production Department.
